"The TV movie was bound to fail from the very beginning. Aaliyah’s family strongly opposed the biopic and her longtime collaborative partners, Timbaland and Missy, were against it and the family ultimately blocked the use of the late singer’s music for the movie. And what else? Oh! THE MASSIVE CASTING SCREW-UP!"
Usually, Wendy Williams make headlines from bashing people but this time around she is the one getting bashed and I mean, BASHED! In case you're unaware, Wendy Williams Co-Produced the Aaliyah Story which aired on Lifetime yesterday (November 16th). According to 85% of people (my own statistics) on social media, everyone is pissed and disappointed because
they felt that the movie was a total 'FAIL'.
According to VH1... "There’s a reason why Aaliyah’s family didn’t condone this movie (allegedly, they’re saving their own biopic plans for the big screen). It skates over many aspects of her life that undoubtedly impacted her in a profound way, notably her relationship with R.Kelly, who produced Aaliyah’s first album Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number (1994) and began an inappropriate relationship with the singer in her early teen years; the two allegedly married when she was 15, and he was 27. While Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B Executive Producer Wendy Williams defended the film’s lighter approach, it seems like the team behind it was afraid to tell the singer’s real story. And that’s where it goes wrong."Aaliyah's songs were not released for the making of the movie, so the producers decided to use other soundtracks. The movie didn't have a lot of materials to work with so the producers pretty much winged it. According to Complex,"The only songs the production team could secure are ones like “Journey to the Past,” which yes, Aaliyah performed at the 1998 Academy Awards but is not exactly among the first 10 songs she is best known for. The same goes for her cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up”—a track from One in a Million that did lead to a music video, though not one that anyone outside of her core fans ever cares to revisit. If they were this hard up for Aaliyah music, I would’ve advised producers to go even deeper into the crates and go beg for “Are You Ready?” from the Sunset Park soundtrack."
The cast was also a total fail!
Someone said,
"Bunch of unprofessional mess. They know nothing about her smh. Wendal Williams said her favorite Aaliyah song is “Let Me Know”.. Girl the song is called “At Your Best”.. It just goes to show how desperate she was to get this horrible movie out & capitalize off of her name."Another said,
"oh and if everyone really wants to know the effort the actress went into studying Aaliyah, please google the interview where she was asked her favorite Aaliyah album. she said she loved the One In A Million album because “Try Again” is her favorite song. Try Again. One In A Million. about a 4 year difference between the two…"Wendy Williams apparently wept backstage after reading the movie reviews and comments. It obviously wasn't a good idea to jump on board as an executive producer mid-way into the movie because it wasn't thoroughly researched! I really do feel bad for Wendy but Aaliyah's life was a mystery and just maybe it should stay that way.
